I suppose all the stuff about how rogues compare to other classes in dps is going to be subject to the usual ups and downs of the circle of nerf and scaling but at this point I don't feel there's a problem there. I agree dps is fine relative to other classes even with the 7 dead talent points to get decent CC, I guess I'm just thinking that with Rogue being one of the most popular classes theres always going to be some rogues available that are specced right for any given task, why take one who is specced for 5 man when you can have a pure raid spec rogue ? or why take a rogue with no imp sap when you can have one that does ?
As far as itemisation in general goes maybe part of the problem is the assassination set, and especially the set bonuses is too d**n good !
What I do think is sad tho is the way combat rogues have got virtually nothing new and exciting from the expanded talent trees and new trainable skills : CoS - is good but hooray for yet another clickable defensive skill with a cooldown *adds it to the list Shiv - is just... only time I use it is if I get disarmed - not exactly a frequent occurance Envenom - totally pointless as a combat rogue, would imagine its not even worth the bother if you specced for it Deadly throw - sounded good on paper, turns out to be just another unnecessary waste of a button in practice
And all the new combat talents were passive...

envenom isnt that bad if you run mutilate build with 2x deadly poison, but its more of an eye candy, with high crits (especially with shaman using stormstrike - 4k crits arent that rare then). but if its better than just eviscerating and letting deadly poison tick on itself, i dont know. cos is really nice for avoiding at least some of the aoe frenzy, but its pvp tool, in pve its just another cd like you pointed out.

Any luck on that dev post? I'm really not posting it in any sarcastic manner, would love to see it.

If that was what you were reffering to, I already knew. In fact, the devs dont state what they want the mages to do, simply that mages do a lot of damage. They have also used this quote to justify damage nerfs (imp fireball/frostbolt, spelldamage coeffecients, etc). What HAS been stated a while ago, is that the mages are being aimed towards a "utility" class, rather than a DPS class.
Anyway, sorry, I thought you might be reffering to another quote. Also note that the quotes are from early beta.

I don't suppose it will happen but they really ought to make imp sap trainable, since you pretty much have to have it if you want to be of any use in heroic dungeons. I'm scared... it looks this will actually happen according to new PTR notes. Now gief job Bliz ! www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/testrealm.html
