BWL priestly dispelling

I decided to post this to share some tips with you fellow priests who will be faced with the dispelslack duty.

General tips:
Sack the CTRA decure buffer. There's a reason why people still develope decursive like addons even if the CTRA decure buffer is available. Because of the myriads (and even CT_team aknowledges they're better) decursive addons, the CTRA decure buffer receives little or no attention thus it is left behind at the decursive addon race. It's best shown in the case of a "missed decuring" where there is curable debuffs on a player but for some reason you can't cure them. CTRA decurser takes around 0.4-0.6 seconds to determine that it can't cure a buff when a decursive ascendant decursive will halve that time. If you have to cure about 200 curses per fight, that means a time save of a full minute where you could have been curing.

Also, the CTRA decurer doesn't check if there's for example abolish disease on the target that has a disease debuff and tries to cure it thus wasting mana.

I use www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-5338-1-tornados-decursive.html but I know there's a bunch of better mods available.

Chromaggus tips:
Gearwise get 3set Transce bonus and don't lose it. After that, just stack MFS. My own observatios shows that in Chrommy fight around 20-25 spirit is worth of about 5 MFS, even with the Transce bonus. With 300 spirit, your 3 set bonus and Meditation is worth of around 30 MFS each making total of 60 MFS.

As a priest, your #1 priority is to cure the blue macig debuffs. If you have mana, go for disease debuffing. I use as a rule of thumb that "If I have more than 90% mana, cure diseases and macig debuffs, under 90% mana only focus on macig ones. When I hit 20%, use a pot. It's even worse to idle at 100% mana than being oom" With these simple rules I've managed wriggle away with 0-2 manapots per fight and loads of cured debuffs.

Always use max rank spells. The manacost is exactly the same with dispel magic 1 and 2 and with cure disease and abolish disease. The difference is that you will get a bunch of less resisted cures with the max ranks spells than with the lower rank.

Oh, and do not forget to get out of shadowform. You can't cure diseases while being in SF and that might lead to certain confusion to as "why isn't my decurer working!?"

Very nice post, Sama, though there are a few points I would like to comment on.

For starters, everyone might not have the option to choose Decursive over the ctra function. I for one cannot run decursive and wow together, and I sorta like it when wow runs I still say that everyone that does not have the problem I do should get decursive asap *nods* (one note to it’s defence though, ctra _does_ check for abolish… when it works, that is >_>)

Mmmmm not completely true. Aside from the various side effects all the damned debuffs have, the last of em is the worst: Any player with 5 different debuffs turns into a monster, who then assists chrommie in hurting us. We have been able to fend off one of these in total. The rest of the time, that’s a wipe. For that reason, I don’t care much for personal preferences, ALL debuffs must be cured! That, my friends, is an order. If you are not removing the debuffs you can, one of your friends get stuck curing them all or we wipe. Not shiny options.

The "90% rule of thumb" was there to because of oom prevention of the dedicated priest dispeller. I have gone numerous times from > 90% to under 10% of mana while doing nothing but magic cleansing. The critical times are always when Chrommy is enraged as not many other priests are dispelling the debuffs. Nothing is more frustrating than seeing another volley of magic debuffs being cast at the raid while being oom and pot timers on CD.

Should have propably put a disclaimer in there as to that these tips are only effective if you're the dedicated dispeller and the tips don't apply if you're a healer who whacks the decurse button every now and then while healing.

I guess priests are the only ones who can cure magic, and all priests going OOM on this would be bad. Shamans can help out on diseases at least. The magic debuff drains mana as well, so needs to be cured pretty fast. 5 debuffs on one person is bad of course

There are tons of decursive type mods out there, might be worth trying a few out to see which is best. I use one called 'detox' at the moment, since I've had problems with CTRA's debuff curing, and with the actualy 'decursive' mod too.

The original decursive addon has been on the docks for the past 6 months, so no one should be using it.

Dispelling set to 1 key, abolish to another, having ctra show curable debuffs. 1 hand targets the other whacks 2 (nref!) keys. Ooooooh, the horror.... >_>

not quite. No mod will be able to show you a list of players that changes depending on anything at all. Mods will however be able to show lists of players that marks the player needing a cure with flashy blinky stuff to catch your attention.
Mods will not be able to offer you a button to cure target if there is not already abolish there, but it can mark the player as debuffed with abolish.
The mods can show you as much information you ever need, but cannot give you any buttons or lists of players that change depending on what happens during combat.

as for examples, mods such as perfectraid or the ctra raid frames that can indicate players in need of cures, will remain as is, while other mods such as emergency monitors and decursive style spam-one-button-for-goodness-mods go out the window completely.

It will be possible to make the raidframes mods closer to a decursive style function, by setting it so clicking on a player in the list casts dispel magic, and rightclicking casts abolish disease, for example. This of course meaning that if you click on players that DONT need curing, you will still cast the spell. (and get the nothing to dispel message)

bottom line is, mods can never steer your actions in tbc, only make recommendations, or facilitate the actions.

(side note: the perfectraid system for showing health of players as well as their curing needs, is pretty much optimal if you ask me. Took me about 20 minutes to remove any trace of emergencymonitors after installing praid, and I'd throw decursive away as well if it wasn't for the one-button-spamming goodness.)

Ya, the perfect raid type system was what I was getting at Should work ok for the most part, it's just a bit more work!

I haven't used emergency monitor at all (can't stand it, and my heals are too slow for it!), and I often use praid for manually dispelling on important targets.

You can show a list, you just can't target anything through it. Here is someone's bright idea about TBC-combatible emergency monitor.
