This is just a post i found at the wow-europe forums (since I'm too lazy for calculating it myself ), but I think it's worth reading.

Its time to redo the debate between mana/5 and +heal. To do this we have to make some assumptions. We will assume that the shaman is full resto build having all the resto talents. We will give him a 7k mana pool and 200 spirit. We then consider how he will perform in a 7 minute fight such as patchwerk. Some fights will be longer, some shorter but we need to have a basis. What we are trying to achieve is casting heals such that the shaman goes oom just at the 7 minute mark. So lets begin by looking at the shamans sources of mana, ignoring consumable for now.
From his mana pool he can use 7000/(30*7) = 33.33 mana a tick.
From his spirit he gains 200/5+15 = 55 mana a tick outside the 5SR.
From mana spring 12.5*30 - 75 = 10 mana a tick.
From mana tide (290*4 - 45) / (5*30) =7.43 mana a tick.
Thus the shaman gains 50.8 a tick inside the 5SR (127 mana/5), and 105.8 outside the 5 SR.
Next you have to consider what spells the shaman is using. Lets assume the shaman has no mana/5 and no +heal.
LHW6
--------
LHW6 is 969 hp for 369 mana. So looking at how long it takes the shaman to gain the 369 mana. He gains 127 during the 5s after the cast leaving 242 mana to find. This he gains in the next (242/105.8) = 2.29 ticks. So the shaman can afford to cast a LHW6 every 9.6s.
If we gave him 100 mana/5, he would gain 227 mana in the 5s after casting and 145.8 per tick thereafter. This means he could cast his LHW6 every 6.95s.
This means he gains 1-(9.6/6.95) = 38% more LHW6 at 969 per cast which is the same as adding 368 per LHW6, which is the same as adding 856 +heal.
Thus using this spell, with this gear 1 mana/5 = 8.5 +heal.
If we started him with 500 +heal the only thing that changes his LHW6 heals for 1183. Adding 100 mana/5 means he can still cast 1.38 times as often, as in the above case. This would gain him 450 hp per cast or 1049 +heal
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 10.5 +heal.
As you expect, the more +heal you have, then the more you need mana/5 to power it. The converse is also true. As you gain more mana/5 you want +heal to use it for casting bigger heals. A balance between the two is needed.
HW10
---------
Now casting LH6 is the least effiicient way we have to heal. How about we look at some other spells. HW10 heals 1908 for 589 mana in 2.5s, but gains form +heal like a 3s spell. We can also assume 3/3 healing way which raises the amount healed to 2252. Using the same apporach and stats as above. He gains 127 during the 5s after the cast leaving 462 mana to find. This he gains in the next (462/105.8) = 4.37 ticks. So the shaman can afford to cast a HW10 every 13.73s.
If we gave him 100 mana/5, he would gain 227 mana in the 5s after casting and 145.8 per tick thereafter. This means he could cast his HW10 every 9.97s.
This means he gains 1-(13.73/9.97) = 38% more HW10 at 2252 per cast which is the same as adding 849 per HW10, which is the same as adding 998 +heal.
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 10.0 +heal.
Now it may seem odd that this slow casting spell is gaining so little from +heal. This is because the base mana cost is high and the majority of the heal is coming from the base heal.
If we started him with 500 +heal the only thing that changes his HW10 heals for 2681. Adding 100 mana/5 means he can still cast 1.38 times as often, as in the above case. This would gain him 1019 hp per cast or 1189 +heal
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 11.9 +heal.
As with LH6, the more +heal you start with, the more mana/5 becomes valuable.
HW4
------
The most efficient of our single healing spells once you gain some +heal. Being level 18 it only gains 92.5% of our +heal bonus, but this is offset against it lower mana cost compared to HW5. Exactly the same as above again.
HW4 heals 334 for 147 mana in 2.5s, but gains form +heal like a 3s spell. We can also assume 3/3 healing way which raises the amount healed to 394. The shaman gains 127 during the 5s after the cast leaving 20 mana to find. This he gains in the next (20/105.8) = 0.19 ticks. So the shaman can afford to cast a HW4 every 5.38s.
If we gave him 100 mana/5, he would gain 227 mana/5. This means he could cast his HW4 every 3.24s.
This means he gains 1-(5.38/3.24) = 66% more HW4 at 147 per cast which is the same as adding 260 per HW4, which is the same as adding 328 +heal.
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 3.28 +heal.
Low level spells like this gain greatly from +heal since most of the heal comes from +heal.
If we started him with 500 +heal the only thing that changes his HW4 heals for 730. Adding 100 mana/5 means he can still cast 1.66 times as often, as in the above case. This would gain him 482 hp per cast or 608 +heal
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 6.08 +heal.
This shaman is already getting most of his heal coming form his +heal. By adding mana/5 he casts far more often.
CH1
-----
At the extreme of favoring +heal we consider CH1 with 3TS bonus. Since CH is 2.5s cast it will gain (2.5/3.5) =71.4% of your +heal. Jump1 is 65% of the original, jump2 is 42.25%. Thus the total healed is 207% of the origninal.
CH1 heals for 392 for 247 mana, leading to a total heal of 811. The shaman gains 127 during the 5s after the cast leaving 120 mana to find. This he gains in the next (120/105.8) = 1.13 ticks. So the shaman can afford to cast a CH1 every 7.27s.
If we gave him 100 mana/5, he would gain 227 mana in the 5s after casting and 145.8 per tick thereafter. This means he could cast his CH1 every 5.27s.
This means he gains 1-(7.27/5.27) = 38% more CH1 at 811 per cast which is the same as adding 308 per cast. To calculate +heal equivalent we have 207%*5/7 = 148%. So we get 208.
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 2.08 +heal.
If we started him with 500 +heal the only thing that changes his CH1 heals for 1551 in total. Adding 100 mana/5 means he can still cast 1.38 times as often, as in the above case. This would gain him 589 hp per cast or 398 +heal
Thus for this shaman 1 mana/5 = 3.98 +heal.
Conclusion:
There are large differences in the value of +heal and mana/5 depending on what you are casting, and to some extent your current gear. Mana/5 has the additional advantage that the mana can also be used for cures and totems. Yet mana/5 can be increased from man pots and consumables. When I am assessing gear I take 1 mana/5 = +8 heal.
