ok, I've been digging in a bunch of raid mods lately and figured I'd share my thoughts on the subject.
If anyone here use any other raid mods, feel free to share your knowledge. Also, don't hesitate to tell us about mods you tried that weren't very good, save us the trouble. =)
With raid mods, I mean raid frames (small healthbars for entire raid), MT target frame, resurrection monitor, emergency monitor and boss mods.
CTRA.
www.ctmod.com
the classic. Standard but sometimes causing crashes. Bossmods a bit iffy sometimes when it comes to timing.
oRA2
www.wowace.com/wiki/ORA2
Replacement for CTRA. has no raidframes, no emergency monitor and no bossmods. it is prefectly compatible with CTRA for readychecks, durability checks, Maintank window, etc etc.
From what I could see, its more lightweight, and from what I could see, the design was superior to ctra in almost everything.
BUT. the maintank window included in oRA2 is horrible if you ask me, and MT assigning is bad. I'm also uncertain to wether it has support for target assignment.
my conclusion:
If you are not a tank, and not a raid leader, this mod might be something for you. the MT window is a personal preference thing I guess. I hated them. >_> (this assumes you're not missing the raidframes and emergency monitor, but those can be replaced.
Perfect raid
www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=4673
A raidframe mod. shows raiders names and healthbars in a nice list.
Spacesaving compared to CTRA, and has very clear indicators for debuffs, missing buffs, who has an SS, who has renew/rejuv on them and even who is low on mana. I'm liking it a lot.
Mukka timers.
www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-3998-1-mukkatimers.html
An additoin to CTRA bossmods, showing timer bars for events. makes it easier to see exactly how long left until this or that, helpful sometimes.
Bigwig Bossmods
www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-4356-1-bigwigs-bossmods.html
Get this one! now!
remember the spam from ctra on chromaggus? breath! frenzy! resistances changed! suffer them no more with bigwig!
instead of the text spam, you get:
Bars with timers and audible warnings, keeping you informed. From what I can tell, it sorts out the messages that doesn't apply to you as well, AND it automatically filters out the spam from ctra so you don't have to hear it anymore. the bars are moveable and scaleable, you can change colors, and textures, it can even brew coffee for you.
ok maybe not coffee, but I still consider this a really nice mod, and strongly recommend it for everyone.
Squishy
www.wowace.com/wiki/Squishy
An emergency monitor replacement. it can tell you if your target is being healed, if its got a heal over time on it, if it has aggro, if its shielded, etc etc. sounds really neat.
on the downside, it doesn't seem to work. >_> I get some error message when I start the game, haven't been able to load this one.
